Construction kicks off on new East Ringwood pavilion

The Turnbull Government’s investment in an improved multi-use community facility in Ringwood East is becoming a reality with the first sod turned today on the $2.7 million East Ringwood Sporting Pavilion Redevelopment project.

Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the redevelopment will involve replacing the recently demolished old pavilion with a new and upgraded facility.

“This project will help meet growing demand for sporting facilities from seasonal tenants and local community groups,” Minister Nash said.

“In addition, the redeveloped pavilion will provide meeting and activity spaces for use by the general community, making this project a win for the entire Ringwood community.”

Federal Member for Deakin Michael Sukkar, who was onsite today and helped turn the first sod, said the Turnbull Government invested $500,000 in this project under its Community Development Grants Programme.

“The Turnbull Government is pleased to partner with the state government and the Maroondah City Council to help deliver this key piece of infrastructure for the local community,” Mr Sukkar said.

“The Community Development Grants Programme supports infrastructure that promotes stable, secure and viable local and regional economies, with almost $350 million available through to 2018 to fund improvements to local community and sporting infrastructure across Australia.”

“This is a facility used by both the East Ringwood football and cricket clubs, as well as being a major venue for the activities of Chin Community Victoria.

“The redeveloped pavilion will boast a large variety of facilities and it is expected up to 1,000 people will visit the pavilion weekly upon completion.

“Features of the new pavilion will include a multipurpose community room, offices, classroom, meeting room, kitchen, bar area and toilets on the upper level.

“In addition, the lower level will feature change rooms, umpires facilities, a trainers/first aid room, a gym and store rooms.”
