LABOR’S EAST WEST LINK BETRAYAL

Labor has driven a dagger through the heart of the outer east.

Residents in Melbourne’s outer-eastern suburbs will despair at Labor’s decision to put the East West Link project on the scrap heap.

Mums and dads, tradies and truck drivers, small business owners and manufacturers in Deakin will be forking our their hard earned money not to build the East West Link – it’s madness and it’s unforgivable.

The people of the outer-east who suffer traffic gridlock, and are condemned to spend more time away from their families, will be deeply frustrated and upset.

And as the retailer, builder, ambulance, florist, courier, taxi driver, plumber, removalist, and parent sits idle on Melbourne’s gridlocked roads, Labor puts the breaks on productivity and growth in Victoria.

Daniel Andrews and Bill Shorten stand condemned for their opposition to this vital road and the loss of 7,000 construction related jobs. The East West Link was the only job creating, shovel-ready major infrastructure project in Victoria.

Bill Shorten once said that the East West Link would allow the life-blood of Victoria’s economy to flow, but has now walked away from the people of Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

The Commonwealth Government continues to put $3 billion on the table to build the road, because it understands that the East West Link is vital for Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

I have fought hard for the people of Deakin to deliver this vital infrastructure piece, which must be built.

I will not give up on this road that our community in Deakin needs.

Sadly, with Labor behind the wheel, Victoria is on the road to nowhere.
