Ringwood Art Society 2014 Artist of the Year

Ringwood Art Society held its Artist of the Year Exhibition at the Art at Linden Gate Gallery on Saturday, 25 October.

Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin, officially opened the exhibition where 17 local artists presented their portraits, landscapes and still life paintings to the public.

Michael congratulated all of the artists for their efforts as well as the Ringwood Art Society’s Committee for their work including the Society’s President, Helen White.

“The Ringwood Art Society does an outstanding job nurturing young artists and engaging with people of all ages in pursuing their artistic endeavours,” he said.

Local artist Alan Close judged the exhibition, with Julie Fenton (pictured) awarded the overall winner and John North winning the Packing Room prize.

Michael was impressed by the quality and calibre of all the art on display and was particularly pleased that Julie Fenton was able to take out the overall award.

“I was pleasantly surprised at the enormously high quality of work on display and was so pleased for all of the local artists acknowledged on the day,” he said.

Earlier this year, Michael visited a class at the Ringwood Art Society to see local artists at work and was buoyed by the local talent that was evident.

“By fostering local artists, the Ringwood Art Society helps bring joy to so many people, and we can all use some more happiness in our lives,” he said.

The Ringwood Art Society’s studio is located behind the North Ringwood Senior Citizens Centre (125 Warrandyte Road, Ringwood).
