Ringwood RSL’s Clocktower Day Club receives ANZAC Centenary local grant

Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin, today announced over $7,700 has been made available by the Australian Government to support the Ringwood RSL’s Clocktower Day Club to commemorate the service and sacrifice of Australians during the First World War.

“The Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program enables communities to support commemorations at the local level by giving them the opportunity to secure funding for projects that preserve the stories of local servicemen and women for generations to come,” Michael said.

“I welcome the recognition from the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Centenary of ANZAC, Senator the Hon. Michael Ronaldson of our electorate’s efforts in recognising those that have served our nation nearly 100 years ago.

“This grant will complement the wider series of commemorative activities that have been developed throughout our electorate.”

A variety of projects will be undertaken by community and ex-service groups in Deakin, these include the Clocktower Day Club, which will undertake a series of bus trips to reduce social isolation.

“Across the country $125,000 has been made available to each federal electorate for community and ex-service groups to spend on commemorative programs,” Michael said.

“At the closing of applications, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs was overwhelmed with the number of applications received from all Federal electorates across Australia.

“I would like to thank the members of the Electorate Committee who have assisted me in developing an approach for commemorating the Anzac Centenary in Deakin, their hard work has made these activities, through the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Programme, a reality.”

The Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program is a key element of the Australian Government’s Anzac Centenary program, more information is available at www.anzaccentenary.gov.au.
