NEW HOUSING DATA DASHBOARD GOES LIVE

The Morrison Government is continuing its focus on social and affordable housing by today announcing the release of a new housing data dashboard from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) and Treasury.

Minister for Housing and Assistant Treasurer Michael Sukkar MP and Assistant Minister for Community Housing, Homelessness and Community Services, Luke Howarth MP welcomed the launch of the dashboard today.

The dashboard which brings together for the first time approximately 7 million data points from across 20 key national housing and homelessness datasets.

Minister Sukkar said the AIHW was funded in the 2018-19 Budget to develop the dashboard in conjunction with Treasury.

“Its development has involved liaising with experts in the housing and homelessness fields to identify key national datasets that can be used to develop engaging visualisations,” Mr Sukkar said.

The Housing Data dashboard will be an invaluable resource for housing and homelessness related data, and covers the entire housing spectrum from housing market financial data through to regional population changes and homelessness estimates.

“The Government’s investment in establishing the Housing Data Dashboard will create a one stop shop for all levels of government, the community housing sector and the private sector to work together to identify shortfalls and oversupply in order to address housing and homelessness across Australia,” Mr Howarth said.

“I’ve met with many housing providers and homeless organisations who have stressed to me the importance of having access to up to date data. This database is going to fill that void and will enable more transparency within the sector,” Mr Howarth said.

Users can now draw out key information with these data sets by creating dashboards from over 50 data tiles. Each tile is a gateway to the data source, where detailed analysis, information on data quality and additional data are presented.
