A Warm Welcome For New Citizens

Michael Sukkar regularly attends Citizenship Ceremonies, held by the Whitehorse and Maroondah City Councils, to welcome new Australian citizens to Deakin.

Michael said Deakin was fortunate to have a diverse community, made stronger by the contributions of people from all over the world who have chosen to make a home here.

“I feel privileged to be able be involved in these very special occasions, where people formally make a commitment to our country and all that it stands for by becoming citizens,” he said.

“Both enormous rewards and responsibilities come with formally joining our national community.

“Our Australian community is unified and harmonious, pulling together during times of adversity and upholding the laws and authority of our stable system of government.

“It is an honour to be able to proudly say, ‘I am an Australian’.”

Michael said he was delighted to welcome hundreds of new citizens to Deakin in 2014, and he thanked the new citizens for their contributions to the local community.
