Coalition Kicks in $400,000 for Sporting Pavilion in Ringwood

Michael Sukkar, Liberal Candidate for Deakin, today announced a Coalition Government would provide a major boost to local sports with $400,000 in funding to redevelop the Kevin Pratt Pavilion in Mullum Reserve, Mullum Mullum Road.

Mr Sukkar attended Norwood Football Club’s home game to announce funding for the pavilion, which is home to Norwood Football Club’s 20 teams, Norwood Cricket Club’s nine teams and social golf participants.

“I am delighted to announce the Coalition’s $400,000 commitment to provide much-needed improvements to this pavilion in Ringwood and help local sporting clubs to cope with the increasing demands on their facility,” he said.

“Norwood Football Club is one of the largest clubs in our region with more than 4000 members and supporters.

“I have worked closely with Norwood Football Club and the other local sporting clubs to secure funding for this exciting $1.6 million project that will benefit both the people who play sport here and the wider community.

“The redevelopment will mean that local schools and community groups will also be able to access the pavilion for meetings and events, with Ringwood U3A already planning to relocate their classes.

The proposed works for the pavilion include six change rooms, a multi-purpose room, second storey community space, gymnasium, first aid room, kitchen and accessible toilets and a viewing terrace.

The project will be delivered through a funding partnership, with the Maroondah Council and the Coalition State Government respectively providing $800,000 and $400,000 in funding.

“The football, cricket and golf clubs that make up Norwood Sporting Club have been lobbying for many years to make this project a reality, and it is disappointing that Mike Symon and the Labor Government haven’t supported them,” he said.

“The Federal Coalition’s commitment is the final piece in the puzzle for this critical project for the local sporting clubs and community in Deakin. “
