Heathmont Jets flying high with a $500,000 upgrade to clubrooms

Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin, was at HE Parker Reserve in Heathmont today to announce $500,000 for the upgrade and redevelopment of the Heathmont Jets FC clubrooms.

Speaking at the Jets’ home-game clash against Boronia, the Heathmont Jets club sponsor Michael Sukkar said he has been working with the club’s committee on plans to upgrade its dated clubrooms.

“It’s a proud moment when you can announce, after years of planning and discussions, funding to deliver modern and functional facilities and amenities for this outstanding local club.

“These new and improved facilities at HE Parker Reserve will not only benefit the sporting clubs using them throughout the year, but they will also be made available to community groups for meetings, functions, and other activities,” Michael said.

President of the Heathmont Jets Football Club, Rob Parker, said the funding will enable the club to update and improve its existing facilities, change rooms, showers, kitchen and other areas.

“We also want to build new change rooms to accommodate junior and senior female football and our growing numbers in our junior club. With the updated facilities it also opens up the opportunity for other community groups to use the rooms,” Mr Parker said.

President of the Heathmont Cricket Club, Matt Carr, said the funding would provide an up-to-date, multipurpose facility that would serve all members of the community, including the expansion into women’s cricket.

“The introduction of women’s cricket would also become a viable option at the club with better catered facilities, and would create a larger, safer and more welcoming environment that would better meet the needs of the growing community.”

This funding comes on top of a $20,000 Deakin Stronger Communities small capital grant provided to the Heathmont Jets Junior Football Club to upgrade its old scoreboard to a new electronic one at Heatherdale Reserve.
