Federal Member for Deakin

Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin, today announced that the funding agreement to deliver new and improved CCTV cameras for Croydon Town Centre has been executed and the project is ready to go ahead.

Mr Sukkar said $435,000 in funding has been authorised under the Safer Streets Programme – Round Two for use by Maroondah City Council to upgrade 14 existing cameras and install seven new cameras in central Croydon.

“This funding secures investment in the CCTV network across the Croydon Town Centre, including the Town Square, Croydon Park and Croydon railway station,” he said.

“The new and upgraded cameras are there to protect our community, deterring criminals and providing vital information to police.”

“It is important for everyone to feel safe in our community, and I will continue to work with local residents, traders, police and the Maroondah City Council on ways to improve safety in Deakin.”
Minister Keenan said only safe communities can be strong and prosperous, and the best way to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour is to prevent it from happening.

“All Australians have the right to feel safe and secure in their community and Michael Sukkar has worked hard to deliver this funding for Deakin,” he said.
