Ringwood athletics sprinting ahead

  • Throwing cages at Proclamation Park, Ringwood, are getting upgraded
  • The new throwing cages complete the massive $2.86m overhaul of the AC Robertson Field
  • The Federal Government contributed $15,000, Maroondah City Council allocated $60,000 and the athletics club invested $8,000

Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin, announced new throwing cages at AC Robertson Field in Proclamation Park, Ringwood, alongside Maroondah City Council and the Ringwood Athletics Club.

Mr Sukkar said that the new throwing cages complete the $2.86m overhaul to the athletic park.

“The old throwing cages no longer met the International Association of Athletics Federation’s standards and the upgrade will ensure they now comply,” Mr Sukkar said.

“Once the upgrade is complete, AC Robertson Field will be the premier athletics track in the Eastern suburbs.

“The field is home to Ringwood Athletics Club and the Ringwood Little Athletics Centre, however, it’s also open to for anyone in the community to use and caters for a number of different sporting disciplines.

Charles Hogarth, President of the Ringwood Athletics Club said: “We’re all looking forward to the new throwing cages – we can’t thank Michael enough for his efforts in lobbying the Council to get this project over the line and for stumping up the remainder of the funding.”
