What Budget Blunder Will Mike Symon Deliver This Year?

The people of Deakin will be unable to trust Mike Symon’s 2013 Budget spin after his blunder last year left small business owners scratching their heads, Michael Sukkar, Liberal Candidate for Deakin, said today.

Mike Symon sent a self-congratulating letter to small business owners in May 2012 spruiking cuts to the company tax rate of 30 to 29 per cent. But by the time that letter arrived to businesses in Deakin two days later, the promise had been broken.

Mike Symon told the Herald Sun at the time:

“As with most Budgets, things can change overnight.”

“This Budget blunder is typical of Mike Symon and the Gillard Government and simply confirmed they can’t be trusted,” Mr Sukkar said.

“Just last week Deakin families were faced with another string of broken promises when the government axed promised increases to Family Tax Benefit Part A payments as well as carbon tax compensation.”

“Labor promised no carbon tax, a Budget surplus, 500,000 new jobs and increased family payments – and every one of these promises has been broken.”

“Labor has leaked a lot of bad news about the shambolic state of the Budget. I fear there is more pain to come for the people of Deakin but sadly we know that whatever spin Mike Symon tries to put on the Budget, his word cannot be trusted.”

Mr Sukkar said only the Coalition had the plan, experience and discipline to return the Budget to sustainable surpluses, reduce debt and provide real support to local families to help them get ahead again.
