LABOR MISSING IN ACTION AMID NATIONAL HOUSING CRISIS

The Albanese Government continues to fail Australians with fresh data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics today revealing dwelling approvals have hit their lowest point since the dark days of the Gillard government.

Total dwellings approvals in April 2023 remained at their lowest level in over a decade, with detached housing approvals 15.4% lower than the same time last year and multi-unit dwellings dropping by 38.9% over the same period. Sadly, even further declines are expected with no housing plan from Labor.

It’s clear Labor’s housing agenda is in tatters, and with Labor bringing in 1.5 million migrants by 2027, the affordability and rental crisis is only going to deteriorate further.

Labor has no plan for first home buyers or renters and Australians have every right to be concerned about the future of our nation’s housing under this Government.

The lack of any housing agenda culminated on the weekend with Labor unsuccessfully attempting to take credit for the Coalition’s remarkably successful Home Guarantee Scheme, which still remains the only lifeline available to help first home buyers.

Australians have given up hope of ever seeing the Government’s ill-fated ‘Help to Buy’ election promise that was promised to commence on 1 January earlier this year.

Labor has botched the housing portfolio during a national housing crisis and Australians deserve a minister that will step up and take ownership.

Unfortunately for Australians seeking a home of their own, there is clearly no light at the end of the tunnel with a government found flatfooted with no active housing policy of its own.
