STRONGER CONSUMER PROTECTIONS FOR RESOLD EVENT TICKETS

The Morrison Government is helping prevent Australians being ripped-off when buying resold event tickets by introducing new disclosure requirements for ticket resale websites under the Australian Consumer Law.

The new Information Standard will introduce new national requirements for ticket resale websites to improve transparency and make it easier for consumers to be informed when buying event tickets.

Consumers who search for event tickets online can sometimes unknowingly find themselves on a ticket resale website and paying far more than the face value.

The Information Standard will require ticket resale websites to clearly disclose that they are a resale service and disclose the original price of tickets they are reselling.

As border restrictions ease, Australians are starting to see an increase in opportunities for sporting events, concerts and music festivals around the country. Major events are also selling out, with tickets becoming available on resale websites.

This change ensures consumers can have more confidence they are getting value for money when buying event tickets.
