Constituency Statement: Cost of Living and Energy prices

There is no end in sight to Labor’s energy price spiral. The latest data reveals the costs of generating electricity soared by a further 31 per cent between April and June. Meanwhile, Labor in Victoria is ripping away gas supply.

The Labor government’s decision to ban gas connections in Victoria is just the latest example of scandalous mismanagement from an extreme-left-wing government. We know what happens when you restrict supply and choice—prices go up. And with households being forced to have more reliance on electricity, which Labor just keeps making more expensive, households will feel the financial hit even further.

When a similar decision was taken by an ACT Labor government, gas prices spiked for households and small businesses. We know that new research has found one in 10 people are unable to pay their power bills under Labor, yet Labor is intent on making their lives even harder. The coalition, in contrast, believes in consumer choice, and opposes this decision to rip away people’s rights to make their own decisions, to have gas and to do what is best for them.

The truth is there is no more rotten government in Australia than Victorian Labor, fully supported by the Albanese government—a party that just cancelled the Commonwealth Games because it has run the state’s finances into the ground.
